Making a Rolling Bear Tiny Home, OUR Home.


This is our story, and how we managed to build and create a home in the mountains and our building process from start to end.


We are a married couple who shared a dream, the dream to live semi remotely in the beautiful mountains of BC. This was not an easy task but our ideals where bigger than us and after 5 years we have created a home in what once was an empty lot in a small town outside of Pemberton.


Meeting John (Owner at Rolling Bears Tiny Homes) was great help and motivation, initially we bought what he called his display home, the first home he built to do a showroom, this came in a 3 axle 30-foot-long trailer, and it was the beginning of creating our home. John was present in every step of the way, and has visited us multiple times along the years, he has become a true friend.

Putting a tiny home in our land required a lot of preparation, we had to get all the basic services to do a daily life. We started with a long call with BC hydro, figuring everything we had to do to get power on the land, luckily our neighbours had already gone through this process and being their last pole the closest point of contact, we just had to extend what they had already done. Two Poles later with a small electric shed, and we were ready to start our lives with electricity.


For the septic tank we decided to hire an expert, we wanted to make sure that all the basic services were done properly since the beginning to avoid problems in the future. So after Power and septic were done, we threw a pump in the existing well and brought the services underground to the location we wanted to have the tiny home. Then we poured a concreate slab and with that we were finally ready to receive Black Bear.


After living in the tiny home for a few months, things were starting to come together. We worked very hard on it, we started to build the deck, then we added a small addition on the side that became the mud room, and finally we winterized the skirt and got ready for an expansion. We wanted to have a larger bedroom, so we worked with John to customize the space we wanted. He listened to our needs, and we decided to give him freedom to do what worked best. After purchasing the first tiny home, we knew his building skills were great, so we decided not to interfere much.

We received the expansion on September 1st 2021, and the interior was going to be a surprise for us. What an exciting experience it is, to receive your house on wheels and move it in the air with a crane. 


Once it was in its place, me and my wife went inside to see it. We fell in love with it, we were very happy to see how John had utilised the space in a way that was very smart. A good size bedroom, a fire place, a closet space and a nice bathroom. The finishings and the colors where very good too.


Nowadays, we only have one more addition to build, a connection from the expansion into the mud room. After that the place will be done.

After living in these high-quality tiny homes for almost 4 years we want to thank John and his team for being the bridge to make our dreams come true. We now live in one of the most beautiful places on earth in a very comfortable setting without having to go through a traditional house build that would have cost us twice as much.


And for anyone looking into following these steps, my piece of advice is to do things right the first time, and that dreaming is the first thing we need to do, the challenges in between will become great learning experiences for life.
